Internationally Acclaimed Shop Curbs Energy Waste
Halifax’s D.R.H. Canvas & Marine is a marine and industrial fabricator and product supplier. The company’s certified craftsmen provide repairs, alterations, fabrication and installation services. To better accommodate the needs of the business, owner and operator, Dave Hickey moved the business to a new location but noted the energy costs had increased.
During a SmartBusiness consultation, Mr. Hickey expressed interest in finding ways to reduce these costs. The Greater Halifax Partnership contacted Nova Scotia Power on behalf of the organization to arrange for a
site visit and energy audit at the company’s premises. Within a month, Nova Scotia Power completed the site visit and identified opportunities for energy savings. D.R.H. Canvas & Marine implemented the recommended changes at the facility and have seen a significant savings as a result.
In 2007, D.R.H. Canvas & Marine received an International Achievement Award from Industrial Fabrics Association International. The award recognizes skillful design, technological innovation, and excellence in the specialty fabrics industry. Selected from 387 entries in 13 different countries, award winners represent many of today’s top professionals in the industry.
In addition to their recent success, the Department of Labour and Workforce Development provided essential training for the staff. D.R.H. Canvas has received awards from the Marine Fabricators Association Excellence Awards Program and several other outstanding achievement awards recognizing the latest advances in technical fabric design and manufacturing in the marine textiles.
This small local business has proven to be a global leader in their field. D.R.H. Canvas & Marine are continuing to develop through their award winning projects and innovative ideas and represents that even small businesses can be recognized by their large achievements.
