The Halifax Connector
Program is a simple but effective referral process that puts newcomers and
international students in touch with local employers so they can build a solid
network to join our workforce and settle successfully in our community.
And it really works. In 2010 the program had 300 connectors representing over 250 organizations and 86 immigrants were hired (73 immigrants and 13 international students). 161 requests for information from potential immigrants were processed resulting in 150
qualified participants being enrolled in the program.
The program also expanded to include MBA, Master of Finance students, and
undergraduate international students enrolled in a co-operative
education degree; was
replicated in five cities in Canada; and was recognized by the Conference Board of Canada as a best practice in attraction and retention of immigrants.
