Our-Programs

As a Connector, employer's play an active role in introducing immigrants and international students to the local job market and to the community. Their involvement directly assists immigrants in developing business networks, thereby increasing the individual’s chances of finding employment in his or her field.

Connector’s Role

  • Meet with a newcomer
  • Listen, ask questions
  • Share knowledge of current market demands and the skills required in your field
  • Help them become a part of your network; introduce them to relevant contacts in your industry
  • Be honest; provide feedback to the newcomer through the Halifax Connector Program Project Coordinator
The conversation can begin by explaining what your role is within your organization, and provide the participant with some background on your previous work experience.

Ask them about their resume, what work they did in their country and what type of work they are looking for in Halifax.  This is a time where you can evaluate how their skills apply in the Halifax job market and how they would be applicable to your organization.

“I was proud to be the first Halifax Connector, but I am only one of thousands of well-connected people who can help talented immigrants expand their business networks.  It seems like a natural thing to do.  If many people pitch in and share their connections, they’ll be helping not only the person seeking employment, but themselves and the economy as well.”
