Halifax has among the highest
ratios of educational facilities to population in North America, with
six universities offering a multitude of undergraduate and graduate programs and three community colleges.
More than 30,000 students are enrolled at these universities
every year, while some 6,500 earn degrees and certificates. This is in
addition to the some 11,000 students across Nova Scotia who attend the
Nova Scotia Community College, as well as students graduating from
universities in nearby provinces.
Halifax is considered “Canada's Smart City”. More than two-thirds of its population has a trade, college or university designation. Roughly 34,000 students are enrolled in Halifax’s universities and community college campuses each year.
The creative element
Halifax has an above average rate of persons employed in 'creative' occupations.
A magnet for talent
The Conference Board ranked Halifax 16 out of 50 Canadian cities in its ability to attract workers who are willing to move - ranking highly in the areas of health and the environment. (City Magnets, 2010)
