Manufacturers in Greater Halifax have trouble finding - and keeping - skilled staff.

|
| Manufacturing and exporting are two of the most dynamic and innovative sectors of the Nova Scotia economy. At the forefront of global competition, Nova Scotia manufacturers and exporters generate the value, the jobs, and the investment that drive economic growth in the province. Their success is critical to ensuring the future prosperity of all Nova Scotia.
|
In Nova Scotia, manufacturers directly account for 10% of all economic activity, which is comparable to other provinces like Alberta and British Columbia. Manufacturing also drives demand for products and services from other sectors of the provincial economy. In fact, every dollar of manufacturing output in Nova Scotia generates over $3 of economic activity.
Manufacturing is also a major high-paying employer in Nova Scotia. The sector accounted for about 48,300 employees in 2003 and weekly wages in manufacturing are 21% higher than the provincial average.
The Greater Halifax Partnership gathered information of existing employee recruitment and retention experiences in Canada and the United States, within the manufacturing sector, to identify best practices, innovative ideas, and highly effective approaches.
