Housing market sales experience rebound
After a downer 2009, Nova Scotia Association of REALTORS® statistics seem to indicate housing sales are jumping back to pre-global recession levels. Despite a slight decrease in listings, sales through the Multiple Listing Service (MLS) were up 23 per cent from January to March this year over the first quarter of 2009. With the help of some graduate students under the supervision of Saint Mary’s University Business Development Centre, Neptune Theatre recently completed an extensive economic impact study. “Green economy” focus of new provincial fund
On the 40th anniversary of Earth Day, the province introduced a bill to create a voluntary carbon offset fund to help reduce greenhouse-gas emissions and expand the green economy.  The fund will give Nova Scotians and businesses an opportunity to be part of the solution to addressing climate change. CBC News is reporting that Halifax Regional Municipality is about to sprout more farmers’ markets, including one in Dartmouth Crossing and one in the Keith’s Brewery, involving vendors that have chosen not to stay with the Halifax Farmers’ Market when it moves to the new Seaport location. Shipping line builds on success at Port of Halifax

NSBI invests in expansion of Nicom
Nova Scotia-based Nicom IT Solutions Inc. is expanding its product line, increasing its workforce and exploring new export markets with help from the province. The province, through Nova Scotia Business Inc. (NSBI), and Nicom IT have signed a five-year payroll rebate to a maximum of $529,200. Salter development one step closer to becoming a reality
The Salter Block project, the biggest development on the Halifax waterfront in the last decade, continues to move forward. Waterfront Development Corporation (WDCL) has approved a key milestone for the project, between Salter Street and Bishop’s Landing. Partnership supports growth of agricultural export market
The Halifax Port Authority is working with the operators of the Halifax Grain Elevator to expand and develop an export market for pulse products from the Maritime region. “Pulses” are edible seeds of legumes, like beans, peas, chickpeas and lentils that can be shipped around the world to emerging markets in marine containers. NSCC gets $2M to target programs and skills in high demand
Joan McArthur-Blair refers to it as a beginning step. The president of the Nova Scotia Community College was on hand at the school’s Institute of Technology campus in north-end Halifax yesterday as Premier Darrell Dexter announced his government was adding 250 spaces for students at NSCC campuses across the province at a cost of $2 million.
