The Greater Halifax Partnership has undertaken an aggressive research
strategy aimed at providing the Greater Halifax business community and
its stakeholders with enhanced research and analysis to help maximize economic growth opportunities. The research team also tracks the
performance of the Greater Halifax economy with the ultimate goal of
identifying critical growth factors and removing barriers to growth.
The Partnership has been active in many research based activities such
as business/industry related research and the development of statistical
profiles, identifying barriers to business development, and researching
and identifying new business opportunities.

Halifax: Hub City for the Maritime Provinces
A Profile of Hub City Attributes
According to a recent Conference Board of Canada study, Halifax plays
the role of hub city in Nova Scotia for all of Atlantic Canada. There
are economic assets, labour force characteristics, niche industries and
regional decision makers concentrated in Halifax that benefit all of
Nova Scotia and beyond. This report highlights some of those attributes.
ALLIES Final Report
The report details the evaluation of the outcomes summarized for the three goals:
- Raise awareness and change perceptions on the benefits of hiring immigrants
- Provide key decision makers with the information they need to source,
select, develop and welcome skilled immigrants to their workforce.
- Increase the business network of new immigrants so that they will be
able to find employment related to their work experience and
qualification.
Assessing the Impact of the Insurance Sector in Nova Scotia: An Economic Footprint Analysis

The insurance industry is made up of life, health, and medical insurance; property and casualty
insurance (including auto, home, and business); reinsurance providers; and insurance agencies and
brokers. This study generates an economic footprint analysis of the direct, indirect, and induced impacts attributable to the various components of Nova Scotia’s insurance industry.
INSURECONOMY
The insurance sector is diverse, with national and international
elements that include life, health, property and casualty insurance
(auto, home and business). This INSURECONOMY report, developed in
partnership with NSBI, presents the results of a broad-based review of
the insurance industry in Nova Scotia confirms that Halifax plays a
unique role as a hub city for the insurance industry, not only in Nova
Scotia but for the Maritimes.

Halifax Gateway: 2010—2015: Strategic Plan: Building the Halifax Gateway
The
Halifax Gateway Council (HGC) released its new five-year strategic plan in February, 2010. HGC's
2010—2015: Strategic Plan: Building the Halifax Gateway focuses
on realizing the vision of Halifax becoming the preferred eastern
gateway for North America and the world, driving economic growth in
Atlantic Canada and Canada as a whole.
Developed in consultation
with Gateway stakeholders and members, the plan reinforces the shared
belief in the Gateway and what it means to the Canadian economy and
international trade and commerce.
