There were 225,100 people employed in Halifax in April 2012.

Halifax continues to grow and out pace the national, regional and provincial rates.  

According to the Canadian Occupational Projection System (COPS) Nova Scotia's employment level will grow by an additional 1.9 percent, or 8,500 jobs, from 2010 to 2015. A large share of these jobs, approximately 75 percent, will be in three main sectors. These industries will be Health (30%), Sales & Service (27%), and Natural & Applied Sciences (18%). Unemployment

The unemployment rate for Halifax stands at 6.1% for April 2012. This rate is 1.2 percentage points below the national average.

Traditionally Halifax's unemployment rate remains within the middle of the benchmark cities.
