Special programs - minority populations

Both Nova Scotia and the Government of Canada have established programs to ensure that all individuals have equal access to funding that supports them in their efforts to start or grow their businesses. These programs include:

Aboriginal Business Canada provides financial assistance, information, and resource materials along with referrals to other possible sources of financing or business support. It also works in partnership with Aboriginal financial and business institutions - and with a range of other agencies, boards, and departments - on initiatives that help to strengthen business skills and promote greater awareness of Aboriginal business achievements.

In Nova Scotia, 15 First Nations and Aboriginal organizations have joined the Aboriginal Business Service Network. Through a working agreement with the Canada/Nova Scotia Business Service Centre, each of these organizations has local access to business books and manuals, computers, and the Internet.

Consult the Aboriginal Business Info-Guide maintained by the Canada/Nova Scotia Business Service Centre for further information.

The Black Business Initiative (BBI) provides training and financial assistance to Nova Scotia’s African Canadian Business Community in a wide range of business sectors including high tech, manufacturing, tourism, and the cultural sector.

The Entrepreneurs With Disabilities Info-Guide, maintained by the Canada/Nova Scotia Business Service Centre, provides extensive coverage and links to information on funding programs, taxation issues, networking groups, and other relevant business services and resources.
