Student Coordinator, Community Economic Development
Derek is currently studying Mandarin and Chemistry at Dalhousie University. His successes are for the benefit of rural African Nova Scotia communities. Derek’s goal is to give everyone the chance to be educated and learn the skills they need to be successful. New and old knowledge will help keep family land in the family, entrepreneurs successful, and farmers farming. The interests of rural communities are to remain rural, rather than to be urbanized. Ensuring community survival with education is Derek’s first priority.
