President and CEO

Stephen Dempsey is the President and CEO of the Greater Halifax Partnership, the economic growth organization for Greater Halifax.

This public-private organization is among the most innovative economic development organizations in North America.  Its primary mandate is to help, keep and grow business in Halifax, while attracting new investment to the area. The Partnership now includes over 150 private-sector investors and all three levels of government, working together to drive the economic growth of Halifax.

With more than 20 years experience in international finance, Stephen is an active member of the Halifax business community and has worked hard to connect with other communities outside of the region.  He dedicates his time serving as Chair of the Halifax Gateway Council, the Past Chair of the Atlantic Provinces Chambers of Commerce, the Canadian Chamber of Commerce, the World Energy Cities Partnership, and the United Way of Halifax.

Stephen's contributions have been recognized by being named one of the top 50 CEO's in Atlantic Canada. Stephen is an experienced public speaker at national and international conferences on the subject of economic development and partnerships.
Stephen is a native of Halifax and received his education at Saint Mary’s University and the University of Ottawa. His vision and passion for his community and his commitment to the economic prosperity of the city comes from his firm belief that Halifax is a modern, historic city and has unique economic and cultural attributes that make it an outstanding place to work, live and play.
