Fred Morley Receives BREI Distinguished Service Award

June 2008 - Fred Morley, the Partnership's Executive Vice President and Chief Economist was recently awarded the Distinguished Service Award from Business Retention and Expansion International (BREI). The award recognizes an individual's distinguished service to the practice of Business Retention & Expansion. It is given to a BREI member or non-member in recognition of his or her outstanding contribution at the national or international level in the area of BR&E. This award is not necessarily awarded annually, but one award is considered each year.
Business Retention Expansion International is a worldwide association of economic development professionals focused on promoting Business Retention & Expansion.

Fred is the first Distinguished Service Award recipient from Canada.
Greater Halifax Partnership Named one of Site Selection Magazine's Top Canadian Economic Development Groups
September 2007 - The Greater Halifax Partnership was recognized as one of the top 10 Canadian Economic Development Groups by Site Selection Magazine for its work in developing a financial services sector strategy for Greater Halifax, SmartBusiness, the Partnership's Business Retention and Expansion initiative, and for fostering joint economic development opportunities in the rural areas of the Greater Halifax.
The Greater Halifax Partnership wins International Economic Development Council Award
On September 19, 2006, the International Economic Development Council (IEDC) presented the Partnership with the Paid Publication Advertising Campaign Award at their Annual Conference in New York. This international award recognizes the Halifax Region Immigration Strategy’s Advertising Campaign that was designed to outline the benefits of hiring immigrants and included a strong call to action. The campaign, created by Partnership Investor MT&L Public Affairs Limited, was launched in October 2005.

Greater Halifax Partnership and the SmartBusiness Action Team win EDAC/RBC Financial Group Development Achievement of the Year Award.
In recognition of the Partnership’s SmartBusiness Initiative, the Economic Developers Association of Canada (EDAC), presented the 2006 EDAC/RBC Financial Group Development Achievement of the Year Award to the Partnership. Granted to the top, community driven economic development project across the country, this award acknowledges the SmartBusiness model for its creativity, innovation, community involvement, effectiveness and attainment of goals and objectives.
The award was presented on September 26th, 2006, during the 2006 EDAC Centre of Excellence Conference in Thunder Bay, Ontario. This award also makes the SmartBusiness model the number one economic development model in Canada.
International Economic Development Council (IEDC) Awards (2005)
The Partnership recently received an honourable mention from the IEDC at it’s annual convention in September. The honourable mention was in the Special Event category for the International Business Summit.

From July 29-31, 2004, the Greater Halifax Partnership, the Atlantic Canada Opportunities Agency, Nova Scotia Business Inc., and the Nova Scotia Association of Regional Development Authorities hosted a collaborative investment attraction effort. The International Business Summit brought 42 of North America's leaders, from Fortune 500 and small to medium size companies, to the province, establishing vital relationships with these key planners to help Nova Scotia stand out in a highly competitive market.
Greater Halifax community receives international recognition for supporting business
On June 3, 2005 the Greater Halifax community received international recognition for efforts designed to help retain and expand existing businesses in the area.
The Greater Halifax community was awarded Outstanding Large Community Business Retention and Expansion Program by Business Retention and Expansion International (BREI) at its anunual conference in Nashville, Tennessee. Halifax Regional Municipality Councillor Reg Rankin accepted the award on behalf of the community.
Fred Morley Named to Ambassador Club
Destination Halifax recognized Fred Morley, Vice President and Chief Economist of the Greater Halifax Partnership, with a Halifax Ambassador Club Achievement Award at an awards gala on March 8, 2005. Nominees were selected in recognition of individual and personal efforts that resulted in Halifax being chosen as the venue for a meeting, conference or special event for 2004.
Mr. Morley was recognized for his role in attracting the ‘Business Retention and Expansion International Conference’ last May. Business Retention and Expansion International (BREI) is a nonprofit professional association of economic development professionals who work to advance business retention and expansion as an economic development strategy for communities.
This is the second year that the Ambassador Club has recognized individuals in the HRM with an Achievement Awards Gala. The Halifax Ambassador Club is an alliance of individuals who through their association positively influence economic growth in Halifax Regional Municipality through the promotion of Halifax as a premier meeting and convention destination.
Economic Developers Association of Canada (EDAC) 2004 Marketing Canada Awards
On October 18, 2004, The Greater Halifax Partnership received an award in the category of research over $600,001 for their work on the Halifax-Moncton Growth Corridor Asset Mapping.
The EDAC Marketing Canada Awards is open to those organizations, which undertake to promote and market Canadian provinces, territories, regions, cities, towns and areas with a view to improving the economic well-being of Canadians.
CoreNet Global Innovator’s Award (2003)
The Greater Halifax Partnership was recently short-listed for a CoreNet Global Innovator’s Award. The Partnership was the only Canadian organization of 12 that were short-listed for the award.

International Economic Development Council (IEDC) Awards (2003)
The Partnership recently received two honourable mentions from the IEDC at it’s annual convention in September. The honourable mentions were in the audio visual category for work done on the HIAA Kiosk and in the research report category for the creation of the Economic Impact Analysis of Offshore Development on Nova Scotia.
The International Economic Development Council - the nation’s largest economic development professional association - was created through the merger of the Council for Urban Economic Development (CUED) and the American Economic Development Council (AEDC), two premier organizations with a strong commitment to the field and established reputations for service and excellence. The organization’s membership includes hundreds of economic development professionals.
