By better understanding what is happening in the region and how Halifax
compares to other cities, we can provide the impetus to companies and
organizations to improve their productivity, to spur innovation, to
encourage investment, and to take advantage of opportunities as they
arise.
The Halifax Index will provide those necessary insights and act as a gut check and a blueprint for action. It will measure the strength of Halifax's economy, the health of our community,
the sustainability of our environment and the progress of the Economic
Strategy.
The Halifax Index will be:
- The definitive analytical framework for understanding our
economy, its successes, challenges and progress
- The primary reference document
on our community
- A progress report related to the strategic goals, objectives and actions of the Economic Strategy
- A progress report on macro-economic indicators, benchmarking Halifax against other similar cities
- A tool for international marketing, investment attraction and expansion, business forecasting and other community-building activities
- A decision-making tool for local and national policy makers
Lead by the Partnership, the Index will rely on a comprehensive set of indicators selected each year by a research consortium made up of the top analysts from public, private and community organizations.
The first Halifax Index will be launched at the inaugural Halifax State of the Economy Conference being held May 23rd and 24th, 2012.
